THE DIFFERENCE
The most effective teacher is someone who has followed the same trajectory as those whom he or she teaches; i.e., the most effective teacher of premedical students is someone who once was a pre-medical student, who has taken the same courses and exams as you, and has made it to where his or her students aim to be. The reason is simple: such a person knows intimately the level of knowledge and experience of students, because s/he once was sitting where they are now, and can draw upon this experience to optimize teaching strategies. Don't be misled by claims by others that it's not important whether your instructor is an M.D. or, at least, a Ph.D. in natural science. It is critically important: only such a person is adequately prepared to teach an MCAT. Insist on being taught by persons who once sat in your seats and have made it to where you want to go. Such are the persons who understand YOU and the EXAM best.
The MCAT is a very difficult exam, and one should be extremely wary of claims that suggest otherwise. The best preparation for it is, quite simply, a rigorous course of study in the content outlined by AAMC. This is an obvious point, but aggressive advertising to the contrary can appeal to the student who doesn't want to face reality, and cause him or her to become excited that there is a short-cut. There is not. Using prep materials that are too easy is a very bad idea. There is very little value in memorizing and repetition for this exam. We will tell you nothing less than the truth - the MCAT requires extensive and careful preparation. This is why our course is longer and more detailed than others.
The MCAT indeed can be prepared for -- by hard work, which can be focused and concentrated by a competent instructor. We focus here on the real thing, written by people with backgrounds like ours in the academy and in medicine, not by people who are neither academics nor doctors, and don't understand the mentality of either and the types of tests they write. This test is about critical and analytical reasoning, and this is what we emphasize. It involves a demanding and extensive curriculum. It also is probably the most difficult - and important - exam you will ever take. We are as serious about it as you are. Please consider the evidence. We know what it takes to succeed in medical school admissions, and we look forward to sharing it with you.
